Hear the difference between higher and lower pitches, then find the same movement on a piano keyboard.
Move toward the sound you hear
Find two notes far apart
Play a note on the left side of the piano and one on the right. Listen before naming which sound is higher.
Move a little at a time
Play a short sequence toward the right, then toward the left. Notice how the pitch rises or falls as you move.
Try it without looking
Ask someone to play two notes, or use the higher-or-lower exercise in Ear Training. Decide whether the second sound moved up or down.
Higher pitch is different from louder sound. You can play a low note loudly or a high note quietly. Listen for the direction of the pitch rather than how forcefully the key was played.
