Jamin Coller is an educator, musician, and father whose life has always revolved around helping young people discover confidence, curiosity, and their own creative voice. Whether he is in a classroom, a music studio, or on a stage, his work is driven by the belief that kids do best when they feel seen, safe, and genuinely excited to learn.

For more than two decades, Jamin has worked with students in both academic and musical settings. As an accredited classroom teacher with over ten years of school teaching experience, including six years leading his own middle school classroom, he is known for creating learning environments that are energetic, focused, and deeply engaging. His classes consistently performed at a high level, not because students were pressured, but because they were motivated by curiosity, connection, and a sense of ownership over their learning.

MUSIC FOR EVERYONE

Decades of teaching and performing

Alongside his classroom work, Jamin has spent more than twenty years as a private music teacher, working one-on-one with students of all ages. From his Sacramento-based studio, he teaches both in person and online, serving families around the world. His studio has remained full for years, with a steady waiting list, reflecting the long-term relationships he builds with students and parents alike.

A core part of Jamin’s work has always been expanding access to music education. He ran the Young Musicians’ Association, a nonprofit that provided free music lessons for underprivileged youth, and served on the board of Classical Masters, a Northern California nonprofit that hosted premier classical music competitions and raised funds to support school music programs. These roles grew out of the same conviction that great music education should never be reserved only for those who can afford it.

Jamin’s approach to teaching is shaped by his own background as a professional musician. He studied jazz saxophone at American River College and Sacramento State, earning his bachelor’s degree while training with and performing alongside respected jazz artists such as Joe Gilman, Jim Martinez, Mike McMullen, Dave Liebman, and Rick Lotter. That deep immersion in jazz, a style built on listening, risk-taking, and creativity, continues to influence how he teaches music and learning as a whole.

A life built around people

He has also spent decades performing and leading in gospel and contemporary Christian music, serving as a music pastor at Lifepoints Church and working with worship teams at large congregations such as Bayside, Capitol, and Abundant Life. As a writer, arranger, and conductor, he has collaborated with the Gospel Music Workshop of America and the Sacramento Youth Symphony, accompanying artists including Lincoln Brewster, Martha Munizzi, Tramaine Hawkins, and Joe Pace.

Outside of music and education, Jamin’s life is deeply grounded in family. He and his wife are raising six children, and anyone who has seen him work with students quickly recognizes how naturally that role fits him. At home, the Coller family is usually found on some kind of adventure, jumping on the trampoline, baking experimental treats, or gathering around their favorite board game, and that same warmth and playfulness shows up in the way Jamin connects with the kids he teaches.

Helping young people rise

Jamin is also an experienced public speaker, headlining across the nation at conventions, seminars, and youth camps. His ability to engage, connect, and communicate with young people was further sharpened during his time as director of the Sacramento Juvenile Drug Court, where he counseled and educated youth facing substance-related charges. That experience deepened his understanding of how much compassion, structure, and belief can change a young person’s trajectory.

At the center of all of Jamin’s work, as a teacher, a musician, a speaker, and a parent, is a simple conviction: when young people feel valued and inspired, they rise to meet the moment. Music, curiosity, and genuine human connection are the tools he uses to help make that happen.
